BHUBANESWAR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday arrested the prime accused in the attack on railway staff and a dairy firm employee for allegedly exporting cattle at the city railway station over one week back.

The accused identified as Ganesh Prasad Sahoo of Old Station Bazaar and a member of Bajrang Dal was arrested from Satya Vihar here. The GRP had identified around 20 persons who were involved in the case and efforts are on to nab them, said IIC Soubhagya Swain.

Sahoo was booked for unlawful assembly, assault, rioting and deterring a public servant from discharging his duty. Earlier, the railway police had arrested two persons, Sudarshan Biswal (39) of Kakatpur and Sibananda Panda (25) of Fatehgarh in connection with the incident.

On May 24, Sahoo along with his accomplices had held the employees of Vertex Agritech Pvt Ltd hostage at Bhubaneswar railway station and brutally assaulted them.

While the company employees were transporting milch cows on Kochuvelli Guwahati Express, the group of self-styled ‘gau-rakshaks’ roughed them up on allegations of cow trafficking. The Station Manager and train driver, who attempted to rescue the victims, were also beaten up by the group.
