KEONJHAR: Three members of a family died after the motorcycle they were going on was hit by a pick-up van at Chemana, about 22 km from here on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Sk Sazzad, his wife Tamanna and their eldest daughter Atifa. All three died on the spot.

According to sources, Sazzad of Chadheibhol village bordering Mayurbhanj was returning home on the two-wheeler after Tamanna’s health check-up when the accident occurred. The couple’s second daughter, 3-year-old Tehebin Parveen has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital while their youngest, one-year-old daughter, escaped narrowly.

Pick-up van driver Haritap Naik was also injured and admitted in District Headquarters Hospital, Keonjhar. Soon after the accident, locals blocked National Highway 49 demanding compensation for Sazzad’s kin.
