TUTICORIN: The Indian senior men’s volleyball team set to play in the 11th South Asian Games at Dhaka, Bangladesh was announced on Tuesday. Dr.B Sivanthi Adityan, President of Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) announced the 12 member team at Dr.Sivanthi Aditanar College of Physical Education in Tiruchendur. Ukrapandian of Tamil Nadu (setter) will lead the team.
“We have a balanced side and I’m confident that we will win the gold at SAF Games and are aiming for a medal at the Asian Games too, to be held at Guanghzou, China, “ said G E Sridharan, head coach of the Indian team. “Our first game will be against Pakistan on January 30,” said K Murugan, Secretary General of VFI.
“Next time an analyst and physiotherapist will be sent along with the team,” added K Murugan.
Dr.Sivanthi Adityan provided a token amount of Rs.1 lakh for the team and promised Rs.15 lakh Prize money if the team returned with a gold from Dhaka. The SAF games at Dhaka is scheduled from Jan 29 to Feb 4.
