NEW DELHI: India entered the quarter-finals of Thomas Cup badminton after an emphatic 4-1 victory over Australia in their second group match at Kuala Lumpur's Putra stadium Tuesday.

In Uber Cup, India lost 1-4 to South Korea yet moved to the knockout stage as the second team from Group D on account of their victory against South Africa in the first match.

The men's team will take on Indonesia in the knockout stage while the women's team will play top seed China, according to the draw released after the league round.

The Indian men lost 1-4 to Indonesia in their first round group clash Monday.

They needed a victory against Australia Tuesday to move ahead. Parupalli Kashyap gave India the lead with a 21-8, 21-10 win over Jeff Tho in the first match.

Arvind Bhatt got the better of Chad Whitehead 21-6, 21-12 in the second singles before Gurusaidutt beat Stuart Gomez 21-15, 21-13 to hand India an unassailable 3-0 lead.

India's top doubles combination of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas, however, went down to Glenn Warfe and Ross Smith 20-22, 18-21.

In the second doubles match, Akshay Dewalkar and V. Diju went past Raj Veeran and Whitehead 21-12, 21-17.
