After scoring the equalizing goal for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC, Peter Biaksangzuala attempted a somersault and landed on his head, severely damaging his spinal cord.

It was a state level match in Mizoram premier league between Bethlehem Vengthlang FC and Chanmari West FC that took place last Tuesday.

The celebrations switched into a major concern for his teammates as Biaksangzuala wasn’t moving. The 23-year old was rushed to the hospital, where he spent five days in the intensive care unit before succumbing to his injuries on Sunday morning.

Mizoram Premier League released a statement in Facebook, “It has been a sad day for Mizoram football and the demise of the footballer shook his team-mates, footballers and fans alike all over Mizoram. Peter was a defensive midfielder who had always been aggressive and hard working, a true team player.”

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC announced that they will retire his number 21 jersey.
