Sunrisers Hyderabad hammered Delhi Daredevils by six wickets in a IPL match here on Saturday to climb to the third position in the points table.
After bowling out Delhi for 80, which is this season’s lowest score, the home team reached the target in 13.5 overs. With their fifth straight home win, Sunrisers have increased their points to 14 and moved up to third position behind Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for the hosts with 22 while Darren Sammy remained unbeaten on 18.
Sunrisers began the chase on a brisk note with both Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel hitting a few boundaries to take the score to 30 without loss in four overs. But the home team then wobbled, losing a few quick wickets. But West Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy and Hanuma Vihari helped Hyderabad complete the chase.
Earlier, Hyderabad bowlers fired in unison to bowl out Daredevils for 80.
Dale Steyn, Thisara Perera and Darren Sammy picked up two wickets each while there were one apiece for Ishant Sharma, Karan Sharma and Amit Mishra.
So poor was the performance by the visiting batsmen that they could score only four boundaries and a six in the entire innings. Only four batsmen could post double-digit scores
The first casualty was Delhi skipper Mahela Jayawardene, trapped in front of the wicket by Ishant Sharma.
Next to go was Virender Sehwag, whose off-stump was disturbed by Darren Sammy, who celebrated the big wicket by performing his by-now-familiar act — sucking on a pacifier hanging around his neck.
