Azad sees agenda in Farooq stand

Express News Service

Former cricketer and BJP MP Kirti Azad on Wednesday alleged that National Conference president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah has come out in support of BCCI chief N Srinivasan because there are allegations of misuse of funds in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), which Abdullah heads as president.

Speaking to the Express, Azad said: “As for as Abdullah and some other people are concerned, there are compulsions as cases of wrongdoings by them are either pending in court or being investigated. Like a case involving misuse of funds amounting to `25 crore by the JKCA is being investigated. Abdullah is refraining from demanding Srinivasan’s resignation because tomorrow somebody may come and demand his resignation too.”

On Tuesday, Abdullah spoke in support of Srinivasan and said: “Why should he (Srinivasan) resign?” When the media told Abdullah that Srinivasan’s son-in-law is allegedly involved in the scandal, he said: “How does it matter? If my son-in-law is involved, it does not mean I have to step down. Let the investigation get over. If it comes out in the investigation that Srinivasan is responsible, he will go.”
