Gurunath Meiyappan would continue to be the guest of the Mumbai police as a Mumbai court on Wednesday extended his police remand till May 31. The court granted the custody despite efforts by the Defense lawyers to thwart the same.

The police sought the custody on the grounds that they need to interrogate Meiyappan and Vindu Singh face to face with Chennai based hotelier Vikram Agarwal. However Agarwal who is not traceable is yet to respond to the summons issued by the Mumbai to be present before it by May 31.

Appraising the court about the progress in the investigation, the police said that it has already confronted Meiyappan with Vindu, the middleman through whom the former placed bets on the IPL matches including those involving his team CSK. For the first time the police have admitted that they have information to believe that Meiyappan passed on CSK’s team strategies and playing order of batsmen to bookies through Vindu.

Mumbai police said that they have confiscated 3 mobile phones, 5 SIM cards and a diary from Meiyappan. One of the phones that Meiyappan used to place bets is in the name of the his employee Kamalnath. The police also said that Meiyappan and Vindu used code words to converse about betting.
