West Indies have announced the 12-member squad for the first test against India, to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from July 21.

In a rather surprising move, the senior pace duo of Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor has been omitted for the series opener.

Another new inclusion is Uncapped batting all-rounder Roston Chase, while opener Leon Johnson too earned a recall.

Another notable exclusion from the Caribbean squad was the senior wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin, as 24-year old Shane Dowrich to stand behind the stumps.

The new-ball attack will be shared by Shannon Gabriel and Carlos Brathwaite, along with the skipper Jason Holder, while leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo to lead the spin attack.

Shai Hope, who smashed a ton against the visiting Indian team, while playing for WICB XI in the warm-up match at St Kitts has been neglected by the selectors.

The Windies batting lineup will rotate on the experienced middle-order batsmen Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo. On the other side, Rajesh Chandrika, who had a poor outing against Aussies last year, retains his spot.

West Indies team:

Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite (vc), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Rajendra Chandrika, Roston Chase, Shane Dorwich (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Leon Johnson, Marlon Samuels.
