HYDERABAD: The Telangana Vimochana Samithi (TVS) has demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre introduce a bill in Parliament facilitating creation of Telangana state, a long-cherished dream of the people of the region.

The TVS, which was formally launched at a function here today, released what it called the Secunderabad Declaration which demanded immediate formation of Telangana State.

Samithi organising committee member V Prakash proposed the declaration which was unanimously adopted at the meeting.

“The First States Reorganisation Commission had recommended creation of Hyderabad state but the government of the day ignored the recommendation and created Andra Paradesh.

Now rulers are speaking of another SRC to create Telangana state. Without the need for a second SRC or its recommendation, the Centre has created 14 States since the first reorganisation took place.

Then why insist on SRC in the case of Telangana? Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should disclose who is preventing formation of Telangana state when all parties are supporting the demand for Telangana.

How can one person prevent the demand of 3.50 crore Telangana people? Can the rulers claim that they are democratic?’’ the declaration questioned. Observing that three new States were formed under pressure created by people’s movements, the declaration said only a similar movement could exert pressure on the Centre in the case of Telangana too. It said the TVS would involve all political parties and individuals in the movement and was committed to building an ikyavedika (united forum) to intensify the agitation.

“The Telangana region was neglected on all fronts and the Rajasekhara Reddy Government’s Jalayagnam would not benefit Telangana because the government did not plan for generation of the power needed for lift irrigation projects.’’ Making serious allegations against the chief minister, the declaration said he was destroying many irrigation projects built by the Nizams.
