Director general of police informed that they have written to the government seeking permission to install vehicle scanning machines at a few places to beef up security. “We took the decision as part of our endeavour to introduce latest technology in maintaining law and order and prevent untoward incidents. We will set up these vehicle scanning machines at AP legislative assembly, DGP’s office, Secretariat, CM’s camp office and other important places,” he added.
He said that a total of 77,390 crimes were reported this year till May compared to 73,515 cases in 2011 (Till May) with an increase of 5.27 per cent. The percentage of crime detection during the current year is 46.65 per cent (36,103 cases were detected out of 77,390 cases reported) against 47.50 per cent (34,920 detected out of 73,515) in the corresponding period of the previous year.
“During this year, Rs 37.41 cr worth property was recovered out of Rs 76.15 cr, (49.13 percent) while property worth Rs 28.19 cr was recovered out of property lost worth Rs 63.28 cr (44.55 percent) during the corresponding period of 2011,” he said.
To expedite Prisoner Transits (PT) cases, which are punishable with imprisonment of 3-7 years, the concept of ‘Plea Bargaining’ will be implemented in the state.
