Even though the agitation for a united state appears to be rigorous in neighboring Rayalaseema, it appears, the frenzy has lost its steam in Nellore district due to the non-cooperation of political parties as the leaders confined themselves to just making statements.
Despite 10 MLAs from the Congress, TDP, YSRC and one MP representing the district, there was no significant participation of people’s representatives in the stir as they were busy with business transactions of their properties owned in Hyderabad.
Barring a couple of them, all the people’s representatives, either directly or indirectly, own businesses worth crores in the state capital. They are now struggling to protect their properties. Anam brothers, who made a hue and cry by issuing stern warning to the party high command over intensifying agitation if the state was bifurcated, now are maintaining stoic silence.
Nellore rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy, who resigned from MLA post two days ago, is just stuck to issuing statements to media in Hyderabad.
Sarvepalli MLA Adala Prabhakara Reddy and Nellore city MLA M Sridhar Krishna Reddy, who resigned from their posts immediately after announcement of Telangana, fled to the state capital, while finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy was not seen in the district since the completion of the panchayat polls.
YSRC MLAs N Prasannakumar Reddy and M Chandrasekhar Reddy, who also resigned from their posts, did a disappearing act. Nellore MP M Rajamohan Reddy has been camping in Hyderabad since the last 15 days.
“The MLAs of the district have no interest in the welfare of the people. Though the agitation for a united state has been on for the last four days, we have not received any support from local politicians,” said AYS Prasad, a student of Vikrama Simhapuri University.
