Former minister and YSR Congress party leader Uppunuthala Purushotham Reddy passed away on Saturday. He was 80.

Uppunuthala, who was in coma since May 1, when he was admitted to Appolo Hospitals in Hyderabad after he suffered a brain stroke, breathed his last at 5:15 a.m. while undergoing treatment.

A native of Addagudur in Mothkur mandal in Nalgonda district, he was elected as an MLC and served as minister for minor irrigation in the cabinet of former chief minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and as excise minister in the cabinet of former chief minister Jalagam Vengal Rao.

A veteran Congress leader, he represented Ramannapeta Assembly Constituency of Nalgonda district twice. He served as chairman of Dairy Development Corporation, APIIC and Telangana Planning and Development Board.  In last September, he joined YSR Congress party. Uppunuthala is survived by his wife and four children.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and others paid tributes to the departed leader and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
