Investments to the tune of around Rs 15,000 crore will come to the state this year, major industries minister J Geetha Reddy has said.
Speaking at a meeting held to review the functioning of District Industries Centres here on Wednesday, she said many reputed national and multinational companies were planning to set up their bases in the state. These new proposals during 2013 would bring in Rs 15,000 crore of investment and create employment for 30,000 people, she added.
Of the 140 mega project proposals received by the state in the last two years, 82 worth Rs 1,29,400 crore with an employment potential of 2,05,795 were being executed. Another 54 projects are at initial stages of execution and four proposals were withdrawn by the promoters due to the economic slowdown, the minister explained.
She said that the state improved its rank from the sixth to the third in attracting investments as per the Union government’s report. She said that the state had received Rs 70,376 crore investment so far this year.
A detailed action plan for the proposed annual plan and non-plan budget of Rs 600 crore was finalised and district-wise targets were fixed. It is expected that nearly 3,000 industrial units will be assisted during the year under planned schemes. Special focus will be given to the SC and ST sub-plan. The government will create a DIC sub-unit in all ITDAs and adopt a cluster-based development plan for each ITDA.
The minister directed the general managers of District Industries Centres to integrate Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu with industrialisation. The GMs were advised to capture the employment potential of various industries and impart need-based training to youth. She assured that all the 24 DICs would he modernised soon through augmentation of physical infrastructure and introduction of modern IT platforms to create a better business environment in the state.
