Congress-MIM sweep GHMC panel polls

Despite cross-voting, the main oppostion party, Telugu Desam, failed to make any impact on the outcome of the elections to the Standing Committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation held on Thursday.

Despite cross-voting, the main oppostion party, Telugu Desam, failed to make any impact on the outcome of the elections to the Standing Committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation held on Thursday.

As expected, the Congress, with the  support of Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen, swept the elections. The Congress won eight seats and the MIM seven. The elections were held to the 15-member panel. Of the 149 polled, five votes were rejected as some of the corporators gave their preference to more than 15 candidates. A total of 18 candidates were in the fray.

WINNERS: The names of winners with the votes polled by them given in the bracket are: M.Parameshwar Reddy (127), M.Prabhakar Reddy (124), B.Pushpa (111), G.Shanker Yadav (100), Jagan.K (94), Geetha Rani T (92), Bharathi Raj B (92), Mchd. Mukarram Ali (91), A.Samed Ahmed Abbad (91), Meraj Mohammed (90), Mohsina Parveen (90), Aruna (89), Syed Minhajuddin (89), Habeeb Zain (89) and MR Srinivasa Rao (86).

LOSERS: While M.Bhanu Prasad of TDP polled (67), K.Sahadev of BJP got 35 votes and J. Devanand of Congress polled four votes.

The term of the committee will be one year. The mayor automatically becomes its chairperson.

The committee is endowed with powers and plays a key role in taking important decisions in respect of any sanctions or release of funds for various developmental works up to Rs 50 lakh.
