AP to have ST commission

The decision was taken to ensure effective implementation of various schemes for STs

Andhra Pradesh will have an independent commission for Schedule Tribes - ‘Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Tribes’ to protect the rights and interests of STs and ensure effective implementation of various policies for STs. A decision to that effect was taken by the state cabinet here on Friday.

According to sources, another important decision taken at Friday meeting was to bring in a legislation for ‘Bangaru Thalli’ scheme to provide legal immunity to it, so that it can be implemented without any hindrance in the future.

A cabinet sub-committee will be formed to discuss and formulate the ‘AP Girl Child Protection Act’ and based on its recommendations, it will be tabled in the ensuing Assembly session for approval of the House.

The Cabinet has also approved 6.8 percent hike in dearness allowances to government employees, which will be effective from January 2013. The first four months DA will be deposited in the employees provident fund account and thereafter, it will be paid every month.

The Cabinet has also approved to sanction two acres of land in Gajularamam village of Qutubullapur mandal in Ranga Reddy district for house sites to families of 30 police personnel, who lost their lives in encounter with Maoists at Chitrakonda village of Malkangiri district in Odisha on January 29, 2008.

The meeting has resolved to have the  10760.66 acres of land allotted to Brahmani Industries Limited in Jammalamadugu mandal in Kadapa district for setting up a steel plant, cancelled and take back the land, as the company failed to comply with the commitment as per MoU.

Likewise, 250 acres of land allotted to US-based Georgia Institute of Technology in Mucherla village of Kandukur mandal in Ranga Reddy district, 12.5 acres allotted to Delhi-based Lal Bahadur Sastry Institute of Management in Ranga Reddy district, five acres of land allotted to Centic School of Business and Hospitality Management in Kakulapadu of Visakhapatnam district will also be taken back.

The Cabinet approved filling of 728 posts in different departments. It also approved AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Bill, 2013 and certain relief’s to AP Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Limited (APRSL) to bail it out of financial crisis. The government has decided to sanction a short term loan of Rs 105 crore to APRSL to complete the ongoing projects.

The conduct of elections for local bodies in July was also discussed at the meeting.
