Naidu demands revamp of APPSC

Express News Service

Expressing anguish over the reported corrupt practices of some members  of the AP Public Service Commission (APPSC), TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday demanded that that it should be revamped with the appointment of persons with integrity and character.Speaking to newsmen here, Naidu said that despite a section of the media’s exposure  of how some APPSC members were ‘selling’ the posts for a whopping Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh each, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had neither dismissed the members  nor reviewed the situation. It was high time that the CM responded to the happenings in the APPSC.

Naidu demanded that the APPSC should be thoroughly overhauled with the dismissal of all the present members and appointment of new members in their place and that this cleansing process should be completed in 10 days. He added that till then all recruitments processes should be halted in the interests of the genuine job-seekers.  Naidu released the bio-datas of the existing APPSC members and said that except one member all the others were Congress party workers and had only degree qualification.

During his (TDP) regime only retired officers and highly qualified persons were  appointed as APPSC members and the recruitment process was done in a transparent manner, Naidu claimed.

Recalling that the then APPSC chairperson Rachel Chatterjee had done away with the oral interviews to avoid corruption, Naidu lamented that the present members had gone  to the High Court against the decision.

He said that a TDP delegation would meet  governor ESL Narasimhan and the chief minister on Saturday and demand an immediate and total revamp of the APPSC.

If the government did not take any action, the TDP would take to streets till justice was done to the unemployed youth, he said.

Naidu said that middlemen were playing a key role in the Congress rule and selling the posts for huge amounts. Thus, they were playing with the lives of unemployed youths.
