With YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy spending one year in judicial remand, party leaders and cadre took out rallies and staged a deeksha on Tuesday in protest against his imprisonment.

Party honorary president Vijayamma and Jagan’s wife Bharathi led a day-long deeksha at Indira Park here, where party activists shouted slogans against Congress and TDP. They said the two parties were responsible for the arrest of the Kadapa MP and the CBI is deliberately delaying the probe in the case.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Sharmila, who is currently on a padayatra in West Godavari district, also undertook deeksha at Palakollu in West Godavari district.

Party leaders and activists in East Godavari, Chittoor, Kadapa, Guntur, Kurnool, Adilabad, Nizambad, Visakhaptanm and several other districts organised deekshas, besides rallies and dharnas.

YSRC leader Vaddepally Narsinga Rao led a rally of 2,000 supporters at Kukatpally in Hyderabad, opposing Jagan Mohan Reddy’s detention.

Addressing the demonstrators at Indira Park, Vijayamma criticised the CBI. “The CBI is delaying the case purposefully. It keeps submitting to the court that it has to file more chargesheets and until it is through with the invetigation, Jagan Mohan Reddy could not be let out on bail, which is only a ruse to prolong his detention,” she said.

Vijayamma said it was unfortunate that the CBI should take instructions from the Congress. She wondered as to why the CBI had not arrestedministers who are being accused of issuing ‘controversial’ GOs and how the CBI could keep quiet. “They are saying the ministers are only facing charges and nothing has been proved. Same is the case with Jagan Mohan Reddy. Nothing has been proved against him.”

Bharathi said that her husband has been arrested and lodged in jail as he is pro-people. “He has been kept in jail for the last one year though he did not commit any crime. God is there and justice would be done,” she said.
