Eamcet results to be announced on June 5

Express News Service

Those appearing for various competitive examinations for admission to professional courses on June 2 can breathe easy as the results of the Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (Eamcet-2013) have been rescheduled for June 5.

A representation made by students and parents citing increased pressure due to the numerous examinations lined up for the day has prompted the change.

Previously, the results were scheduled on June 2 the day when the  Advanced Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)  for admission to IITs and the common entrance test for admission to MBBS course in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), Puducherry will be held. The examination for JEE-Advanced will be held from 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm while the examination for Jipmer will be conducted between 10 am and 1 pm.

“There are multiple examinations lined up for the day and we do not want to pressurise students. The results will, therefore, be declared at 4.30 pm on June 5,” said NV Ramana Rao, convener of Eamcet. The HC directive mandates that the result should be announced before June 15. “As the difference between the two dates is not much, there will be no significant impact due to the delay in the declaration of results. However, the schedule for counselling remains unchanged,” said P.Sathi Reddy, secretary of AP State Council for Higher Education.

Officials indicate that lobbying by corporate colleges for announcement of the results on another day prompted the representation since the colleges feared losing out on claiming top ranks as the students would be busy with other entrance tests.
