DG-prisons refutes Naidu's allegations

Express News Service

Director-general of prisons and correctional services T Krishna Raju has refuted the allegations of Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on jails as reported in some sections of media.

In a press release here on Thursday, he said there was no truth in the allegations that high-profile prisoners were consuming alcohol, viewing porn films and enjoying luxury facilities in jails, and that the Chanchalguda central prison had become de facto headquarters of YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

He clarified that Jagan was only a remand prisoner under special class and he was  provided with facilities strictly in accordance with rules and regulations.  Every time the TDP sought, under RTI Act, details of mulakats with Jagan and other prisoners of the special-class category, those details were provided in a transparent manner, the DG said.

Condemning the allegations, Krishna Raju  said it was not proper for Naidu to make such allegations on the state prisons which were considered to be the best- administrated jails in the country. As per the AP Jails and Prisons Rules 1979, administration was being carried out  incorporating measures to protect human rights, he claimed.
