It’s Hat-trick for TD
The TDP has achieved hat-trick by capturing the mayor and the deputy mayor posts of Rajahmundry. In the three elections conducted to the MCR, the coveted mayor post was bagged twice by women. The TDP secured majority in all the elections.
In the first two councils, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had no representation. In the present third council the BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) opened their accounts by winning one seat each.
In West Godavari district, the TDP made a clean sweep in the elections to civic chief posts. TDP candidate SK Noorjahan was elected Eluru mayor.
In the 50-member council, the TDP has 40 members. Chode Venkataratnam was declared elected deputy mayor.
Earlier, special officer and district collector Siddharth Jain administered oath to the 50 elected corporators. Since all the corporators agreed on Noorjahan’s candidature and there was no second nomination for the mayor post, the collector announced that Noorjahan was elected mayor.
