VMDA's 7-day Music and Dance Festival from Aug 8

VISAKHAPATNAM: The 14th edition of the annual week-long festival of music, dance and drama, organised by Visakha Music and Dance Academy (VMDA), will commence on August 8, at Kalabharati auditorium in the city. Sangita Kalanidhi R Vedavalli will be conferred with Nada Vidya Bharati title on the occasion. The renowned vocalist will also perform for two hours, after she is conferred with the title by Central Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar on August 8.

VMDA founder president CSN Raju told mediapersons here Sunday that the week-long festivities would feature Carnatic vocal concerts by Bombay Jayasri Ramanath on August 9 and by Tadepalli Lokanadha Sarma on August 13. On August 10, a violin duet will be performed by Dwaram Durga Prasada Rao and Dwaram Satyanarana Rao, while Hindustani instrumental will be featured by Pandit Subrata De on August 12. The sixth day of the festival will feature a Bharatanatyam ballet by Rajeswari Sainath and her disciples, while Young Men’s Happy Club of Kakinada will perform a play ‘Desamanu Preminchunanna’ on the seventh and the last day of the event.

VMDA trustee and secretary GRK Prasad (Rambabu) explained that noted conservationist and scholar Dusi Dharma Rao would be the convenor of the event. Music lovers and general public can purchase the weekly ticket for Rs 300 per person or purchase daily ticket for Rs 50 to watch performances on select days, from the VMDA.
