Express News Service

VISAKHAPATNAM :  “I was really surprised after I made my own microscope. We just used things like glass, scissors, tape, wood, which we use in daily life. Moreover it worked,” said an excited student B Vamsi, who is studying class VIII in Sri Prakash.

Students of Sri Prakash were trained to make their own instruments by using things in day-to-day life by renowned teacher and trainer, Chou Chien Heng, assistant professor of Electro-optical Engineering of Van-Nung University of Taiwan. During his visit to the school, he imparted practical knowledge to the students as part of the educational exchange programme ‘International Council of Associations for Science Education’ (INCASE-2015)’, with students of Taiwan here Thursday.

Students were divided into groups and taught to assemble a microscope using common things. Scientific demonstrations, including generating electricity with plastic cups, aluminium foil and woollen cloth were shown. Excited students were seen taking notes. The professor also explained electro optical engineering in layman’s language with a live demonstration.

The school authorities said that INCASE was a week-long programme in which students from Taiwan and from Sri Prakash will give presentations.

On the occasion, Chou Chien Heng said that local students had a lot of talent and were enthusiastic. He also said that students should learn how to make instruments of their own and learn practical theory from textbooks. “The Taiwan government is looking to sign more MoUs with Indian educational institutions as the students over here are very talented,” he said.
