Corporate Education System Most Ruinous: IIT Ramaiah

Express News Service

VISAKHAPATNAM: The corporate system has completely ruined the educational structure of India. The experiments which they have implemented over the couple of years have totally changed the criteria of education, and has also adversely affected the education system in government schools, felt renowned educationalist and teacher Chukka Ramaiah. He took part in a Regional Consultative Meet on the new educational policy 2015, conducted by the Regional Institute of Education NCERT, Mysore, here at Andhra University campus Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chukka Ramaiah said that these days, classes are being conducted on the basis of exam results. But the actual system should be conducting examinations based on the classes taken. Expressing his displeasure over the present corporate system, Ramaiah recalled the services of former Prime Minister of India of PV Narasimha Rao towards the education system. He said that the government’s total negligence has resulted in the evolution of such a shameful system.

Ramaiah felt that the government, instead of filling vacant posts for teachers at random, should conduct a proper background check and follow the slated rules for recruiting a teacher. He stated that one qualified teacher is equal to ten underqualified ones.

Ramaiah said that while DSE qualification could be the base for recruitment, the authorities must consider an aspiring teacher’s extra curricular skills and enthusiasm towards the profession. He also demanded that an accreditation council be appointed to monitor the working of colleges.

Former vice-chancellor of Andhra University and GITAM University chancellor K Ramakrishna Rao also stressed the need for having a credible education policy and development of a nationalised system for education. He also felt that the new education policy should stress on primary education rather than higher education, as it is the base for any student.

Andhra University professor GSN Raju spoke about various new implementations in the universities, including Massive Open Online Course System (MOOCS), Choice Based Credit System etc. Officials from NCERT pointed out the lack of quality in faculty members and highlighted the need for revamping the current education system.
