Three die in explosion at crackers manufacturing unit in AP

At least three persons were burnt alive and more than 20 others suffered severe burn injuries following an explosion in an unauthorised crackers manufacturing unit.

NELLORE: At least three persons were burnt alive and more than 20 others suffered severe burn injuries following an explosion in an unauthorised crackers manufacturing unit near Porlukatta on the outskirts of Nellore district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Bhaskar, Nagaraju and Polaiah. The condition of at least eight is said to be critical and they are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Nellore. According to sources, they suffered more than 60 per cent burns.

Locals said that more than 10 illegal crackers manufacturing units were being operated in and around Porlukatta. At around 10 AM on Saturday morning, the locals heard the explosion and ran out to find one of the unauthorised crackers unit engulfed in fire. Around 25 workers were working inside the unit at the time of the explosion.

Immediately after receiving information, the fire tenders and medical teams rushed to the spot. District collector R Muthyala Raju and other officials rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operations. The fire has been brought under control.
