GUNTUR: Senior TDP leader Nannapaneni Rajakumari, who took charge as the first Chairperson of the Women’s Commission of the reorganised state, here, on Wednesday, observed that the atrocities against women were committed not only by men but also by members of the same sex.
She ascertained that most of the cases dealt with by the women commission revealed that atrocities against women were perpetrated by either mothers-in-law or sisters-in- law and the instances of mothers-in-law subjected to attacks by daughters-in-law. In this connection, she felt that a rapid change in the mindset of women could work as an effective deterrent against the malady.
Speaking after taking oath, Rajakumari said that she will strive for resolving the problems being faced by the women community. “Apart from appointing the members of the women commission soon, I will make a visit to all the 13 districts to know about the problems of women so as to take necessary steps to overcome the same,” she said.
She also announced to go through the cases that were filed with women commission in the erstwhile combined Andhra Pradesh state and punish the guilty.
