VISAKHAPATNAM: A five-storey property overlooking the scenic Bay of Bengal, Varun Beach Bheemili Resort by Novotel, managed by Accor Hotels, would be open to public from Monday at Bheemili. Prabhu Kishore, chairman-and-managing director, Varun group, said: “For the past 20-25 years, neither the government nor the private individuals took interest in investing in a beautiful place like Bheemili, which has a historical significance and is known for the Dutch and British settlements.

Hence, to tap the  tourism potential in Vizag, the Varun group has partnered with Accor Hotels to launch Varun Beach Bheemili Resort as there are plenty of local attractions and to fulfil the demands of tourists.”

The property at Bheemili measures 2,000 square yards and is the only resort in the state with a rooftop swimming pool. The four and a half acres of land beside the hotel features recreational activities like Beach Volleyball, Night Cricket, Jogging track and children’s park.

Teppanyaki, first of its kind in South India, offers service with an infinite sea view. The other food and dining outlets include The Square, Infinity and Water Bar.

“After the operation of Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach in 2012, the plans of opening a resort at Bheemili started in 2013. But after the Hudhud devastation in 2014, the work got delayed. Proposals have been made to the government to widen the road and to lay footpaths opposite the resort to facilitate tourists,” added the CMD. Jean-Michel Casse, senior vice-president, Operations, Accor Hotels, India, said, “India is a promising state for investment as the growth is prominent in the hotel sector and will see 80 hotels by Accor and Novotel in the country by the end of 2020.”

The resort that offers 28 exotic rooms and three economy rooms would be inaugurated Monday by Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Jean-Michel Casse.
