The first of the four highly manoeuvrable fast attack crafts being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) of Kolkata, the ship will strengthen the coastal patrol and surveillance operations along the east coast.

Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, commissioned the ship into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard. INS Tarmugli would be based in Visakhapatnam under the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh).
