VIJAYAWADA: The leaders of Minorities Democratic Party (MDP) have demanded the government to withdraw its decision to demolish the 400-year-old Jamia Masjid at Nidumolu in Krishna district, to convert the Bandar Road into four lanes.
A team of Muslim bodies inspected the masjid at Nidumolu on Tuesday and cried foul over the government’s decision. Later, addressing the newsmen, MDP State President Altaf Ali Raza wondered as to why the district administration initiated plans to demolish the masjid, in clear violation of the Wakf Board guidelines.
It was mandatory for the officials to protect the properties of Wakf properties under GO 18 and the district Collector should own the responsibility in this regard, he stressed.
Muslim Hakkula Porata Samithi Convener Shahrukh Hubli reminded that the district administration had demolished a part of Syed Hussain Shah Khadri Dargah at Tarapet in the city earlier for road extension works.
He also threatened to launch a series of agitations against the government if it fails to protect the interests of the Muslims.
