VIJAYAWADA: A 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly distressed over a man stalking her, killed herself on Wednesday near Vijayawada.

The girl, pursuing class IX at Government High School in Patamata hung herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Sanathnagar area of Penamaluru mandal, near Vijayawada on Wednesday night. Sources said a youth had been stalking her for some time.

A youth from Sanathnagar was allegedly stalking her for some time. When it came to light that she had ended her life, her family tried to cover up the incident saying that a severe stomach ache prompted her to resort to the extreme step.

However, on Thursday morning, the family members said she was distressed over a 16-year-old youth stalking her. The girl's younger sister told media persons that the accused used to stalk her sister and make lurid comments. She said sometimes the accused would beat her sister. However, the parents - K Govinda Rao and K Parvathi - were not aware of it.

Police registered a case and took the body for postmortem. “We are investigating the case from different angles,” Penamaluru inspector K Damodhar Rao said adding that no arrests have been made.
