Burglars on Monday broke into a businessman’s house while he was away on a pilgrimage and made way with gold weighing 1,200 grams and eight necklaces together worth about Rs 3 crore.

ONGOLE: Burglars on Monday broke into a businessman’s house while he was away on a pilgrimage and made way with gold weighing 1,200 grams and eight necklaces together worth about Rs 3 crore. Appala Koteswara Rao, after leaving his dog with his relatives, left for Tirupati on October 21 with his wife and two other family members.

When they returned home in the afternoon, they were shocked to see the almirah in which they kept the gold and jewellery broken and clothes strewn all around. Koteswara Rao in his complaint said of eight necklaces, one was worth `1 crore as it is studded with diamonds. Police said it appeared as if the culprits had kept a close watch on the businessman for a while and struck immediately when his house was empty.
