INS Gharial leaves for Bangladesh with relief material for Rohingyas

KAKINADA: A shipment carrying 620 tonnes food items for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh was shipped off from Kakinada Port on Monday. District Collector Kartikeya Mishra supervised the arrangements here at the deepwater port. He visited the site and checked the material which was kept ready on the ship.As per instructions from the Centre, Collector Mishra personally attended and supervised all the relief works. He said the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) had taken up the task of packing 62,000 packets of food material and the district administration had made necessary arrangements.

Forty thousand packets were readied at Ravulapalem and 22,000 packets at Chollangi in the district. Each packet weighs 11.5 kg and contains 5 kg of rice, 2 kg dal,1 kg salt, a mosquito net, 1 kg milk powder, 1 oil packet and tea power. The items were dispatched in INS Gharial which will reach Chittagong Port on September 28. Mishra said over 120 persons sailed off from Kakinada Port aboard the ship captained by Suraj James Rabeera, including 103 shipping staff and three civilians. Additional Joint Collector J Radha Krishna Murthy, Revenue Divisional Officer L Raghu Babu and others attended the flagging off ceremony.
