NELLORE: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr Ponguru Narayana on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, stating that “dharma has prevailed” with Amaravati gaining legal status as the State capital and the “three-capital game has come to an end”.

Addressing the media in Nellore, the Minister stated that the Amaravati capital project would be completed by August 2028. He clarified that the project would be fully self-sustainable and that not a single rupee of taxpayers’ money would be spent on its construction.

Narayana said the government has already allocated 70,790 plots, with only about 650 pending, and criticised YSRCP leaders for making “baseless allegations” without understanding the data.

He accused the previous regime of misusing public funds, alleging that Rs 750 crore was spent on survey stones bearing the former Chief Minister’s image and Rs 25 crore on passbooks.

The Minister further alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy constructed a “palace” at Rushikonda for personal luxury, while the present government is focused on building Amaravati for the benefit of five crore people of the State.

Highlighting the financial model, Narayana said Amaravati would be developed as a 100 per cent self-sustaining project by monetising 5,000 acres of government land to repay loans, ensuring no burden on public funds.

He said the capital city is being designed to surpass Hyderabad with world-class infrastructure, including international stadiums and airports.

The Minister also alleged that attempts were made to mislead the public with “diversionary tactics” on the day the Amaravati bill was introduced in Parliament, but expressed confidence that people would not believe such claims.

Nellore Mayor Sujatha Ashok, Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav, former municipal chairperson Tallapaka Anuradha and others attended.
