VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday called upon the party rank and file to treat the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls with utmost seriousness.
Addressing a State-level workshop on SIR at the TDP headquarters, Naidu said the revision process should be closely monitored.
Stating that the SIR exercise, conducted once every two to three decades, is being undertaken based on the 2002 electoral rolls, he said voter mapping is scheduled to be carried out twice before July 14, and party workers should ensure that all eligible voters are enrolled.
“There should be no negligence in the SIR process. Registering as a voter is the responsibility of every citizen, and creating an awareness about voter enrolment is the responsibility of political parties. Electoral rolls form the foundation of poll strategy and planning,” he said.
Naidu instructed TDP cadre to verify voter records through repeated field visits and coordinate with Booth Level Officers to ensure accurate voter mapping.
‘Every eligible citizen must be enrolled as voter’
“Every voter must be mapped and every eligible citizen must be enrolled,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the TDP would monitor the process on a daily basis, and urged leaders to ensure that supporters’ names remain in the voter list. He pointed out that many Andhra Pradesh residents migrate to other regions for work and education, making voter verification particularly important.
Naidu stressed that coordination among alliance partners TDP, Jana Sena and BJP should not be limited to election time. “SIR will be the first test of coordination among alliance parties. We must work together not only in government but also in all organisational activities,” he said.
Naidu also emphasised the need to cultivate leadership within the party. “Many seek followers, but I seek leaders. Strong leadership strengthens the party and ultimately strengthens governance,” he said.
The Chief Minister announced that a coordination committee involving all three NDA partners would soon be formed to oversee activities related to voter roll revision and other organisational programmes.
Recalling the party’s performance in the Graduates’ MLC elections ahead of the 2024 polls, Naidu said the TDP achieved victory in all three Graduates’ constituencies through meticulous groundwork and technical planning. He noted that the party had once avoided contesting such elections but later succeeded in winning them, which he described as evidence of strength and reach of its organisational network.
Stating that a statewide door-to-door campaign will be held from June 25 to August 10 to publicise the coalition government’s welfare and development initiatives, he said party workers should visit every household and explain the achievements of both the Central and State governments over the past two years. Naidu added that he would personally participate in the campaign, and urged leaders to use bicycles and e-bicycles to connect with people.
The CM advised newly elected legislators not to become “one-term MLAs” and urged them to focus on development, and good governance. “Votes are earned through development and effective administration. Character and credibility are essential for everyone, from party workers to senior leaders,” Naidu added.
