TDP seeks Eluru MP’s explanation on drug use allegations within five days

The notice, issued by TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao, sought a detailed clarification from Mahesh Kumar regarding the allegations.

VISAKHAPATNAM/ VIJAYAWADA: The TDP has given five days to Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar to submit a written explanation over allegations linking him to drug use.

In a show-cause notice issued on Sunday, the TDP said reports claiming that the MP had allegedly tested positive for drugs had come to the attention of the leadership, and were detrimental to the party’s reputation.

The notice, issued by TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao, sought a detailed clarification from Mahesh Kumar regarding the allegations. He has been asked to submit his written explanation to the State president within five days.

Pending submission of the explanation, the MP has been advised to stay away from party activities. The party leadership also stated that failure to provide a satisfactory response within the stipulated time may lead to appropriate action under the party’s rules and regulations.

He said that the TDP leadership will take a final decision on the issue after examining the explanation submitted by the MP and the findings of the party’s internal review.

MP denies reports

Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar has refuted reports linking him to the incident at a dinner party in Moinabad, Hyderabad. After police questioning on Sunday, the MP returned to his residence in Hyderabad and released a video statement to the media.

In his statement, Mahesh Kumar said the people of Eluru, party leaders, and workers have known him for the past two years and are aware of his character. He asserted that he has no bad habits and has committed no wrongdoing. He explained that he went to Moinabad only at the invitation of a friend, and that certain events which happened been misrepresented in the media.

The MP appealed to the public not to believe such reports, assuring that he would fully cooperate with the police investigation.

The MP added that he would soon come before the people with complete details. Mahesh Kumar expressed confidence that the truth would prevail.
