GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday predicted an NDA hat-trick in Assam ahead of the April 9 polls, citing a massive turnout at his Gogamukh rally despite inclement weather as a sign of public support.
“The BJP-NDA government’s hat-trick is certain in Assam. The Congress’ defeat of a hat-trick is also certain. Assam is forming a BJP-NDA government for the third straight time. For the Congress’ so-called prince, he will suffer the century of defeat,” Modi said, addressing the gathering.
He said Assam had seen a new era of service and good governance in the last 10 years, first under Sarbananda Sonowal and then, under Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Modi praised the Assam BJP for the “excellent” Sankalp Patra (manifesto) released on Tuesday.
“The Sankalp Patra released on a 'Mangalbar' (Tuesday) will bring more 'Mangal' to Assam,” the Prime Minister said.
He said he was confident that the steps to be taken as mentioned in the manifesto would create more government jobs and opportunities for self-reliance for the youth of the state. Moreover, he praised the BJP for its decision to spend Rs 5 lakh crore in building infrastructure in the state.
“More than 22 lakh poor families in Assam received pucca houses in the past few years. The Sankalp Patra says those who have been left out of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will also be covered,” Modi said, announcing that 15 lakh more families would get pucca houses under this scheme in the coming years.
Modi disclosed that around 3 lakh Assam women had become “Lakhpati Baideu” and the BJP’s target is to make altogether 40 lakh sisters “Lakhpati Baideu.”
“The decision to introduce the Uniform Civil Code and protect the indigenous communities, along with the culture and tradition of Sixth Schedule areas, is a major step towards safeguarding the identity of Assam. The BJP fulfils what it commits,” Modi said.
“Youngsters, aged 20-25 years, have seen only BJP-NDA good governance. They have not seen the dark era of Congress rule. Those days, people received news only of bombs, guns, riots from Assam. In the last one decade, the double engine government has shown a new path to lasting peace in Assam,” he further stated.
