NEW DELHI: Three people, including a woman, were killed and five injured in a gang war in North Delhi on Monday. The shootout comes barely few weeks after the Delhi Police killed four men of Sanjeev Bharti gang in South Delhi. Gangs in Delhi are coming back in action after a long gap.

According to the police, two local gangs fired at each other in broad daylight in Burari.

“At about 10 am in the morning, gangsters of Gogi and Tillu gangs shot multiple rounds from two SUVs at a busy marketplace at Burari in north Delhi. The two gangs are wanted in cases of extortion and murder in the city,” a police officer said. While two men from both the gangs were killed in the firing, the woman, 37, was in the vicinity when she was hit fatally by stray bullets.

CCTV footage from the area shows a man stepping out of a white SUV and running after another man runs away from the spot. In this case, the rivalry of the two gangs has led to 15 murders so far.

The rivalry between the leaders of the two gangs — now in their twenties — began in 2010 during the Delhi University Student Union elections when they were hired allegedly by the students to help them fight the polls. Jitender Gogi, one of the gang leaders, carries a reward of Rs 2 lakh.
