NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Friday informed a city court that it has addressed the earlier “miscommunication” regarding the withdrawal of security cover to women wrestlers who are to testify against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a case of sexual harassment.
The clarification came after Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot directed the police to submit a detailed report by Friday, explaining the reasons behind the sudden move. She directed the DCP concerned to provide immediate security to one of the three applicants as she is poised to testify against Singh on August 22.
Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava, representing cops, stated that the removal of the security cover was a result of a “miscommunication” within the department. “It has been rectified,” Srivastava assured the court, indicating that necessary steps had been taken to reinstate the protection for three.
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Thursday alleged that the police removed the security of women grapplers. “Delhi Police has withdrawn the security of the women wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan,” Phogat said on ‘X’.
