The new Karnataka State Folklore University, the first of its kind in the country, will be inaugurated on June 16.
Till now, the university did not have its own building and was operating out of a rented premise in Bangalore. Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Ambalike Hiriyanna here on Wednesday said, “Many states and countries have folklore study centres and institutes. But till date no independent university for folklore study has been set up. Ours will be the first in the country.”
He added that the Karnataka State Tourism Corporation building situated about six km away from Gatagodi village will be the administrative office. He said that 21 teaching and 35 non-teaching staffs for various courses have been recruited.
