'Regular pay for guest lecturers'

Expressing regret for delayed disbursal of salary to 10,500 guest lecturers working in various state-owned First Grade Colleges, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande said efforts would be made to release grants to clear all pending dues in the coming months.

In his reply to a call-attention motion moved by the members, he said sufficient funds would be released.

He said the total pending salary due to the guest lecturers is about Rs 52 crore. Blaming the previous government for the problem, he told the House: “The  arrears of salary payment are related to 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.” As many as 10,500 guest lecturers  are getting salary in the range of `8,000 and Rs 10,000 per month. But they are not receiving it regularly, he noted.
