Express News Service

Nimish Dwarakanath, a final year BSC student of Yuvaraja’s College, who has bagged 11th rank in the All-India IIT-JAM Entrance Exam in his maiden attempt without any formal coaching, will soon join Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) for his Masters degree in Physics.

The joy of Nimish, son of Dwarakanath who runs an advertising agency in Bangalore, had no bounds as the result was a surprise for him. “I was confident of clearing the entrance exam with a rank around 150. But I never expected the 11th rank. I am extremely happy,” said the 21-year-old who is expecting his final year BSc results.

He said he was serious about the IIT-JAM Entrance Exam, one of the toughest exams, from the last one year.

“I studied nearly five hours a day when the entrance exam was nearing,” he added. What makes Nimish’s feat incredible is that he has cracked the exam without any formal coaching. Nimish said that he used to turn to his Associate Professor of Physics Dr Swarnamala Sirsi and HoD Dr D Krishnegowda for guidance and thanked them for their encouragement.

At home, it was seemless support from his parents, he said. “I was unsuccessful in my attempt to enter IIT for under graduation course after my plus 2. But my parents never allowed me to feel low,” said Nimish.

He wants to purse PhD in a reputed institute after postgraduation and then take up research.  “Preference should be given to Basic Sciences as there are lot of opportunities, “ he observed.

Born and brought up in Mysore, Nimish completed his schooling at Demonstration School with 74 per cent in class 10. He passed class 12 from Narayana College in Hyderabad with 84 per cent. His mother Renuka is a housewife.

At leisure time, Nimish reads novels on Sherlock Holmes  and plays table tennis.
