Professional Education: Bill passed

Express News Service

A Bill to provide recognition for the consensual agreement proposed between the state government and the private unaided educational institutions imparting professional educational courses was passed in the Assembly unanimously on Thursday.

Moving the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) (Special Provisions) Bill 2013, Higher Education Minister R V Deshapande said it would enable the government to enter into a consensual arrangement with the private unaided professional educational institutions for 2013-14.

Informing that the private institutions have agreed not to seek enhancement of the fee structure which was agreed upon last year, the minister assured the House that a mechanism would be set to prevent the institutions demanding more fee from students above the fee stipulated by the government. Earlier, BJP’s C T Ravi and Shivalinge Gowda (JDS) charged that some private institutions were fleecing the students.
