Groupism led to BJP’s debacle: DVS

Express News Service

Attributing the BJP’s debacle in the Assembly elections to ‘infighting and groupism ‘, Opposition leader in the state Legislative Council D V Sadananda Gowda expressed confidence that the party would bounce back to power in the coming years.

Participating in a debate on the thanks giving motion on the Governor’s joint address to the Legislature, here on Friday, Gowda said the Congress had come to power owing to the serious infighting and groupism within the BJP ranks.  “People who were fed up with our follies have punished us to sit on the Opposition benches for a brief period,” he said.

Challenging that the party would bounce back to the centre stage of the state politics, the Opposition leader warned the Congress against misusing the office to target the BJP and its workers across the state.

Claiming that there was communal harmony when the BJP was in power, Gowda said, “The signs of breaking down of law and order is appearing in the state.”

Referring to the communal nature of the tension at Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district recently, the Opposition leader  warned the state government to remain vigilant to avoid recurrence of such events.

Refuting the charges that the previous BJP government had failed in all fronts, he said that in a record period about 5,7000 houses were built for the flood victims and over `9000 crore had been released for Upper Krishna’s Stage III project.

He also said that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre presented several awards to the state BJP government recognising its excellent performances in implementing various schemes including Sakaala, the guarantee of delivery of states services to citizens.
