Express News Service

Senior police officers visited Sheerlu on Monday and combing operation was intensified after the villagers reported that a team of eight Naxalites visit the area and burnt the bike of tribal leader Kempanna.

After nearly two years, Naxals lead by Mundugar Latha and his members Ravindra and Komal came to Sheerlu on Sunday night and reportedly warned the tribals not to fall into the government’s trap of rehabilitation package.

The Naxals alleged that the government in the name of rehabilitation was trying to evacuate the tribals from the Kudremukh National Park.

They also threatened of stringent action against those who were hand-in-glove with the government in this evacuation process.

The Naxals named Kempanna, as one such agent of the government, and advised him to stop it or face the consequences.

Villagers told Express that the Naxals were wearing masks and were equipped with weapons.

Kempanna, a farmer president of LAMPS Society, was 20 km away from Sheerlu at Addagadde, when the Naxals attacked. But his brother was at home at the time of incident.

Three years ago Naxals had attacked Kempanna at his house and warned him not to cooperate with the government.

A villager of Kudremukh National Park alleged that since the Assembly elections, Naxals were moving at Kerekatte area and had visited many houses demanding money.

In an encounter on May 16, a police was injured and police had intensified combing.

But Naxals are resurfacing in this area and gaining strength, the villager said.
