Without mincing words, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said stern action will be taken against officials who show laxity in addressing people’s problems.

“My government will not tolerate indiscipline among the bureaucrats and such officials will be punished without any mercy,” he said at a two-day meeting of deputy commissioners and chief executive officers of all the 30 districts here on Monday.

The CM observed that people come to meet senior officials and the ministers in Bangalore only when the district administrations fail. This would reflect failure of officials at the district-level.

“Our government will not excuse such officials and punitive action is certain against those who are not only lax but also fail to respond to needs and aspirations of the citizens,” he added.

Siddaramaiah promised that officials will not be disturbed in their respective posts if they understand the aims and objectives of the government and discharge their duties honestly and effectively.

“At the same time, doors would be shown to officials if their performance is not up the mark. The DCs and CEOs have greater responsibilities in implementing the programmes of the government at district- levels with utmost sincerity. People would stop coming to Bangalore if their works were done by officials at village, taluk and districts,” said the CM.

The newly-appointed district-in-charge ministers would hold district review meetings once in three months.

Officials who were responsible for non-implementation of programmes and lack of development should be brought to the notice of heads of departments concerned and also of district-in-charge ministers.

Siddaramaiah said: “A government has come to power and people have lot of expectations from it. They expect the government to be transparent as well as speedy. It is possible for the government to work according to the expectation of the public if every official at the lower rung understands his/her responsibilities and work with dedication. Need of the hour is to send a message that the new government works differently. The immediate task before the state  government is to make itself people-friendly by delivering services on time.”

Crime Against Women On The Rise

Noting that cases of atrocities against women are on the rise, the CM directed the district administrations to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future. “Likewise, social evils like child marriage and child labour should be totally eliminated to improve society’s health,” he added.

He said the state is lagging behind in implementation of schemes sponsored by the Centre like Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojane, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and National Rural Livelihood Mission when compared to other southern States.

This came to his notice during his meeting with Union Rural Development Minister in Delhi last week.

“The state has to utilise the funds released by the Centre to improve the standard of living of people in rural areas. The Union Minister will visit Karnataka on June 14 to review the schemes,” he said. Several ministers and Chief Secretary S V Ranganath participated in the meeting.
