In a cruel twist of fate, second PUC student H L Pavan from Davangere city, who drowned on May 20 in the TV station reservoir, secured the ninth rank in the CET medical examinations and 64th rank in the engineering exams.

Pavan, son of H R Lokesh, was a student of Nutuna PU Science College and had scored 84 per cent in the II PU exams.

Pavan, who had gone to the reservoir on May 20 evening with his friends, accidentally dropped his slippers into the reservoir. When he ventured into the water to retrieve them, he drowned. His body was later retrieved by expert swimmers.

Pavan’s friends and college staff condoled his death.

MLA S S Mallikarjun visited Pavan’s house on Wednesday and consoled his family members.
