Ahead of joint session, CM vets Governor's speech

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers here on Thursday and reportedly veted a  draft of Governor H R Bhardwaj’s speech as part of the joint address to the state Legislature to be held on Monday.

According to officials, the Council of Ministers chaired by Siddaramaiah sat for over three hours, and finalised the draft.

The Governor’s address is expected to roll out the road map of the administration of the Congress government. The Governor’s address is expected to highlight the thrust areas of the new government, sources said.

Sources told Express that the Governor in his address is also expected to touch upon the importance of empowerment of people living in abject poverty, women, youths and Rural Development and Panchayath Raj besides focussing on other core areas like irrigation, agriculture, and development, roads and ports.

The Governor in his address is also likely to announce new pro-poor programmes of the state government and reiterate state’s commitment to uplift the downtrodden and give protection to the vulnerable sections in the society, including those belongs to minorities, SC/ST and Other Backward Classes,  sources said.

All  members of the Council, including the ministers of state attended the meeting,  sources added.
