Karnataka High Court Chief Justice D H Waghela assured the people that the pending cases in the Gulbarga Permanent High Court Bench would be disposed of soon. He was delivering the presidential address during the inauguration of the HC’s permanent bench here on Saturday.
He called upon the legal fraternity to develop a set of ethics to ensure that the pending cases were disposed of and that there is no time wasted in delivering justice to people. “There are about 16,000 cases older than 2008 in the Gulbarga Bench. There will be a disposal drive. With the cooperation of all, including advocates, all these cases will be cleared, not within years, but within months. There are vacancies in judicial and administrative sections. These will be filled up soon,” he said.
Expressing happiness over the inauguration of the bench, Justice Waghela asked the advocates to make the best use of the facility. “We should also make sure that the people get justice within a time frame. And that cannot happen without the cooperation and active efforts of the bar,” he added.
Supreme Court Justice V Gopala Gowda inaugurated the bench. He said he worked in the Circuit Bench as a judge earlier.
“Now the time has come to be here as the Supreme Court judge to inaugurate the High Court’s permanent bench where I worked,” he added.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said that the government is setting up 10 more fast-track courts to try cases related to crimes against women. “Violence Against Women Act will be enforced strictly,” he noted.
Union Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Bidar MP Dharam Singh and High Court Judge Justice K Bhakthavatsala among those present on the occasion.
Justice N K Patil welcomed the gathering and High Court’s Registrar General R B Budihal proposed the vote of thanks.
