CHIKBALLAPUR: 896  Domestic Gas Cylinders stored in two ten-wheeler lorries exploded following a fire incident reported in  SLN  Gas  Godown situated at Nayanahalli, in Chikballapur District in Karnataka.

Preliminary investigation revealed the incident took place due to an accidental fire. A detailed investigation will be carried out for the reason for the mishap and if there was any safety lapse on the part of the gas agency. According to Central Range IGP Seemanth Kumar, no causality has been reported and also said already a team of experts from the Fire Service and Explosives enquiring over the same and will submit a detailed report.

According to sources, the incident reported around 1 A.M on Monday when Munikrishna, watchman of municipal pump house noticed the fire and informed Srinivas of the gas agency, who informed the fire department.Three fire tenders from Srinivasapura, Chinthamani and Siddlaghatta were rushed to the spot, and it took four hours to extinguish the fire, Two cylinders laden Lorries and a Bolero Vehicle parked near the lorry was also fully burnt.

The loaded lorries had reached the godown during the wee hours of Sunday. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishnamurthy, the pump house and gas godown also damaged due to incident.The loss is yet to be ascertained, he added.
