MYSURU: The exotic Korean Dosa Mastiff was the centre of attraction at the third open dog show organised by the Canine Club of Mysuru on the Scouts and Guides Grounds on Sunday.

A pair of Korean Dosa Mastiffs was imported for the first time in the country by Bengaluru-based businessman and breeder S Satish by paying `2 crore recently.

Mahajana College student Yamini said: “I never thought I would get an opportunity to see ‘Dosa’. The chocolate colour dog is silky and shiny.”

Satish said it was his dream to own Korean Mastiffs and they are being kept in an AC room until the dogs adapt to the Indian weather. “The dogs are friendly and can be easily handled. They are very intelligent and like the company of people,” said Satish who owns more than 150 rare breeds.

“To maintain the Dosa, I spend `30,000 a month. It is slowly adapting to our weather. A female mastiff weighs around 140-165 pounds and the male 160-180 pounds. The life expectancy is 10-12 years,” said Satish.

Varsha who owns a pair of Siberian Husky said this breed is one of the oldest, a 2,000-year-old strain of dogs. The dogs have a lot of energy and maintenance is not easy, she said.

Nearly 350 pets took part and people from across the country displayed their exotic breeds at the show. It was a weekend treat for dog lovers as Miniature Pinscher which weighs 3 kg, St Bernard,  Newfoundland (France), Rottweiler, German Shepherd, English Mastiff, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Doberman, Neapolitan Mastiff, Labrador Retriever, Pug and Indian breeds like Mudhol, Rajapalayam and Kanni participated in it.
